Cardiac Surgery
Salvatore Lentini is the Head of the Department of Cardiac Surgery at The Salam Centre for Cardiac Surgery in Khartoum. He is also a member of the Medical Division of the Italian Organization EMERGENCY NGO running the Salam Centre. Dr. Lentini performs heart operations in both adults and children, with both traditional or minimally invasive approaches. He has a special interest in valvular heart surgery and tricuspid valve in particular. He has an academic background and he is a Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology (FESC), the American College of Cardiology (FACC), and the International College of Surgeons (FICS). His area of research has included many subjects during the years. The clinical research has included in between others, treatment of aortic aneurysms and aortic valve surgery through a minimally invasive approach, the surgical remodeling of the dilated ischemic ventricle, mitral valve surgery, and intraoperative ischemic complications. The basic science research has been directed mainly on the study of the extracellular myocardial matrix and on the myocardial cytoskeleton.
