As of October 10, 2010, Curaçao and St. Maarten became independent nations within the Kingdom of the Netherlands, dissolving the Netherlands Antilles and giving its constituent islands a new status. Bonaire, St. Eustatius, and Saba have been designated as special municipalities. There are 16,785,000 people living in the Kingdom as of May 2013, and Amsterdam is its capital and largest city. The Hague is where the government is located (Den Haag). Dutch is the official language of communication, although West Frisian, Papiamento, and English are recognised regional tongues (in Sint Eustatius and Saba).
Economy of Netherlands
On the strength of strong export and investment growth, the Netherlands economy expanded significantly in the first half of 2022. However, it is anticipated that a modest slowdown in economic activity will occur in the second half of the year as a result of a decline in real disposable income among households, tightening financial conditions, and the uncertainty brought on by Russia's invasion of Ukraine. In both 2023 and 2024, headwinds are anticipated to persist, and annual growth is predicted to slow to 0.6% and 1.3%, respectively. The government has outlined a set of measures to lessen the effects of high energy costs for 2023, which are anticipated to bolster domestic demand and stop a more significant downturn in GDP growth. According to projections, the government's actions will cause the budget deficit to reach 4.0% of GDP in 2023. The deficit is expected to drop to 3.1% of GDP in 2024 once the assistance measures expire at the end of 2023.
