Berlin, Germany’s capital, dates to the 13th century. Reminders of the city's turbulent 20th-century history include its Holocaust memorial and the Berlin Wall's graffitied remains. Divided during the Cold War, its 18th-century Brandenburg Gate has become a symbol of reunification. The city's also known for its art scene and modern landmarks like the gold-colored, swoop-roofed Berliner Philharmonie, Berlin is definitely a nice city to live in, particularly for young and skilled people. Unfortunately, the crime rate is very high, the highest among German cities. While in most other German cities like Munich the crime rate is decreasing, the opposite trend can be demonstrated for Berlin.
Berlin only comes fourth in the “Europe's top city” category. London is even rated as the world's second favourite city, after New York. Berlin is wonderful, and may well have a couple of things that it does better than London, like cheap beer, or a quicker public transport system. There is no other way around it. Summers (real summers) don't exist in London except for those brief, unexpected, Brits-panicking heat waves. Winter is freezing cold in both cities. The only difference that the wind is slightly warmer in London than in the Artic Berlin one.
