Title: Metastatic L1 Root Compression presenting as an inguinal pain
Abstract:
Spinal metastasis is a devastating clinical entity in patients with a known tumor. Early recognition of spinal involvement in those with cancer is important as symptomatic spinal cord compression due to spine metastasis can lead to an irreversible spinal cord injury within only a week. This study reports a L1 spinal metastatic patient with an atypical presentation of severe inguinal pain. He was managed with L1 vertebral laminectomy and posterior instrumentation. After the surgery, his pain was significantly relieved. This study underscores the importance of spinal examination in those with a known tumor, in order not to miss the spinal metastasis in these patients. Also, it highlights the significant role of operative management in improving the quality of life of spinal metastatic patients.
